How to play Tower Stack

Tower Stack is a game of timing. A colourful block slides back and forth above the top of your tower. Press Play, then click, tap, or press Space at the moment the moving block is lined up with the block beneath it. It drops straight down onto the tower.

Any part of the new block that hangs over the edge of the block below is sliced off and tumbles away. What remains becomes the new top of the tower, so a sloppy drop leaves you with a narrower block to work with next time. The next block starts from the opposite side at the same width as the new top.

Each block you place is worth 1 point. If you line it up almost exactly with the block below, it counts as a Perfect drop: nothing is sliced off, the block snaps neatly into place and you get 2 bonus points. From the third perfect drop in a row onward, each perfect drop also makes the block slightly wider, up to the original width.

The camera rises as the tower grows, and the sky slowly darkens into a starry night the higher you build. The sliding speed also increases gradually. If a block misses the tower completely, it falls away, the game ends and the camera pulls back to show your whole tower. Your best score is saved on this device.

Tips and strategy

Watch the edges, not the middle

It is much easier to judge alignment by watching one edge of the sliding block than by looking at the whole thing. Pick the leading edge and drop when it lines up with the matching edge of the block below.

  • Focus on the side the block is moving toward.
  • Keep your eyes at the top of the tower; the rest does not matter.
  • Resist the urge to tap as soon as the block appears. Let it come to you.

Protect your width

Every slice makes the game harder, because a narrow block leaves less room for error. Early in the game, when the speed is low, concentrate on accuracy rather than speed so you keep a wide tower for later.

Chase perfect streaks

  • A perfect drop gives bonus points and cuts nothing off.
  • Three perfect drops in a row start to widen the block again, so a streak can rescue a narrow tower.
  • The perfect window is small, but it is the same size at every speed, so rhythm matters more than reflexes.

Find the rhythm

Blocks slide at a steady speed and reverse at the same points each time. Many players find it easier to count the beat of the block's movement and tap on the count, rather than reacting purely on sight.

Recover calmly from a bad drop

  • If you are left with a very narrow block, slow down and wait for a clean pass rather than rushing.
  • Remember that the block always starts from the opposite side, so be ready for the change of direction.
  • One careful drop is worth more than two hurried ones.

About Tower Stack

Stacking games test one simple skill: dropping a moving object at exactly the right moment. The idea is familiar from physical toys and fairground games, and it has become a popular genre of quick, one-tap games on phones and in web browsers, where each round takes seconds to start and minutes to master.

What makes stacking games compelling is the way every mistake stays with you. A slightly late tap does not just cost a point; it shrinks the platform you have to hit next time, so tension builds naturally as the tower grows taller and thinner.

Tower Stack is PlayNook's own original version of this idea, designed and programmed from scratch for the browser. It features sliced overhangs with tumbling offcuts, a perfect-drop bonus that can widen your tower again, gradually rising speed, a sky that changes with height and a final view of your whole tower when the game ends.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a perfect drop?

A drop counts as perfect when the new block lands within a few pixels of the block below. It snaps into place, nothing is cut off and you earn 2 bonus points.

Can my blocks get wider again?

Yes. From the third perfect drop in a row onward, each perfect drop makes the block slightly wider, up to the width of the original base.

When does the game end?

The game ends when a dropped block misses the tower completely. As long as some part of it overlaps the block below, you keep going.

Does the speed increase?

Yes. The blocks slide a little faster with every level of the tower, up to a maximum speed.
